|Mission San Luis Obispo|
San Luis Obispo de Tolosa Mission was founded by Father Serra September 1, 1772. It is the fifth in the chain of the 21 California Missions. The mission was named for Saint Louis, Bishop of Toulouse, France and forms the heart of the city of San Luis Obispo (rated the number one downtown area for a city in the Western United States by Sunset Magazine).
The mission sits along San Luis Creek, and sets the tone for the Mission architecture that is so common in this area. Self-guided tours are available daily.
Mission San Luis Obispo is about 20 minutes southeast of Cayucos in the city of San Luis Obispo.
